A  grant (up to $8,000) has been awarded to the City of Newberry to restore a Civil War cannon given to the city in 1995.

The cannon was recovered from The Governor that was caught in a 1861 storm off the SC coast.  Seven men were killed but over 400 men were rescued.

The restoration is being done in the Charleston area and was started on 1/21/10.   It will take a couple of years to complete.
